Effective teaching and learning of science involves seeing, handling, and manipulating real objects and materials. Our science lab allows students to engage in collaborative learning through hands-on experiments using high quality technology and instruments. These investigations introduce our students to the process of scientific inquiry and provide deep understanding of the relationship between action and reaction.
Saint Mary's students get first-hand experience by using models and testing theories and concepts, which they then use to write lab reports. This real-time creation of knowledge allows for better retention of information and generates enthusiasm for the complex mechanisms of the world around us, all of which lays the groundwork for the our future scientists and researchers in STEM fields.
Our students in grade K-5 access the lab once a week while our students in grades 6-8 attend the lab twice per week.
STEM education is active, student-centered learning environment, where students engage in questioning, problem solving, collaboration, and hands-on activities while they address real life issues. Our curriculum creates STEM proficient students who are able to answer complex questions, investigate global issues, and develop solutions for challenges and real world problems while seamlessly applying the rigor of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics content. Our goal is for all St. Mary's students to be STEM proficient, which lays the foundation for them to be logical thinkers and effective communicators who are technologically, scientifically, and mathematically literate.
Science without Religion is lame, Religion without Science is blind.
